HOG HEAVEN

BES-2010-08-08-HOG HEAVEN-WEB

Well this image is not of my usual HDR or Landscape subject matter.  However, it is cool nonetheless.  I took this image a few months ago while visiting my parents down the shore.  If you’re not from Jersey then it would be “down at the shore.”  Anyway, when going through the images from this day I wasn’t to impressed with it and just cast it aside.

Yesterday I took another look at it.  I converted it to Black and White to see what it would looke like.  It looked a lot better then I thought.  I also cropped it to a 16:9 ratio to give it a more dramatic effect.  I really like how it came out.  To be fair, it’s very hard to make a BAD image of a Harley.  They are just awesome machines!

NJ FESTIVAL OF BALLOONING

Hey everyone!  Last weekend my wife and I attended the 28th Annual Festival Of Ballooning.  The Festival is held on Solberg Airport in Whitehouse Station, NJ.  The airfield is lined with games, rides, vendors and glorious food!

In the evening there is a live concert.  This year the artists consisted of Air Supply and Rick Springfield, to name a few.

The main event of the festival is the launching of over 100 Hot Air Balloons.  The great thing about these balloons is that they come in all shapes and sizes like houses, scare crows, and giant bees!

It is a wonderful evening for family and friends.  I highly recommend attending next July.  Maybe I’ll see you there!

GET TO WORK

I was driving home late last night and ended up in some traffic due to road work.  As I was moping down the road at the speed of dirt, I looked over and saw some road workers just hanging out not doing too much.  I said to myself, “I can’t believe these guys are just doing nothing”.  Then the light bulb went off in my head.  Not only were those workers doing nothing, but so was I.  Here was a perfect opportunity to work on my photography.  Sadly, my camera was not with me.  I then thought of what Chase Jarvis is preaching…”The best camera is the one that’s with you”.  You can find out more about that here.  So I whipped out my phone and started shooting.

Yeah, I know that the pics are probably gonna be grainy.  And yeah, its night-time so they are probably gonna be MORE grainy.  But any picture is better than no picture.  Plus, there is always a chance that you can learn something while shooting.  One thing is for sure, you won’t learn anything new if you aren’t shooting.  At the very least you can work on simple things like composition.  Anything is better than just sitting in traffic being bored.

So the next time you find yourself in a boring situation, pull out your camera and start shooting.  You never know what you’re gonna get.
